Two Students from DGGS were lucky enough to experience a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity by attending and supporting a charity fundraising concert, ‘Flourish: A Musical Odyssey,’ in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, giving a speech to the many guests attending the event.

The concert took place on the 23rd September 2023 in the city’s prestigious and recognisable venue, the wonderful Saigon Opera House, with the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra playing 18 pieces, by composer, Yerkesh Shakeyev, who has a connection with the Dover based, British concert pianist Oliver Poole. The orchestra was skilfully led by Artistic Director Bao Anh Nguyen.

Following the concert, a gala dinner took place at the Park Hyatt hotel for 100 VIP guests with a charity auction following, to raise further funds for the two worthwhile charities chosen, Newborns Vietnam and Saigon Children’s charity. So far $50,000 has been raised and donations are still coming in.

Our students are wearing traditional Ao Dai dresses, enjoying an amazing evening and a wonderful experience. The photo of the audience shows Emily Hamblin (U.K. Consul General) with her deputy Sam Wood on her right and U.K. Ambassador Iain Frew just out of shot.
