    Vision

To create citizens who have the desire and skills to contribute fully to a dynamic local, national and global economy.

    Intent

We aim to enthuse students with a sense of purpose, enabling them to achieve as active stakeholders for their own advancement and the benefit of society. We offer opportunities for students to develop as independent and intrinsically motivated learners by providing a vast variety of resources that can be used both inside and outside the classroom. We inspire interest in the business and economic world encouraging students to question business and government decision making.

Students can utilise resources provided by the department in a variety of digital and paper formats. These have been designed to allow access both during lessons, as part of school self-study and from outside the educational environment. Resources are selected to build on the learning within the classroom, so that students can find information to develop, assess and extend their knowledge and understanding.

Materials are also available that give guidance on how a student can realise their full potential and maximise their exam scores by illustrating the use of skills to evidence the assessment objectives.

Key Stage 4: The GCSE Business course has been chosen to provide the scope for a range of students with different goals—from starting their own business to contributing to the global society through not-for-profit organisations.

The course content is structured around engaging themes that will spark students’ imagination and inspire entrepreneurial thinking as they develop their business knowledge. The GCSE examinations are based around real and relevant business examples to develop entrepreneurial skills.

Key Stage 5: At A Level there are two courses available, which are A Level Business and A Level Economics. A full and varied range of resources is available to both courses. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions – all skills that are needed for further study and employment.

A Level Business: Students are introduced to Business through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work. Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, with applications to a wider range of contexts and more complex business information, are developed in the second year of study, requiring students to take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues. The diversity of the topics, including marketing, human resources, operations, finance, strategy and globalisation, allow for a wide variety of teaching and learning methods to be used.

A Level Economics: Students are introduced to Economics through building knowledge of core microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts, and by investigating economic theory through real-world businesses and the environments in which they operate. Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding with applications to more complex concepts and models are developed in the second year of study.
